Why buy reclaimed?

Reclaimed roof tiles can dramatically improve the overall look of your project blending in seamlessly with an existing roof or nearby buildings

Reclaimed or second hand slates and roof tiles come in some beautiful varieties, some are actually antiques and in parts of the country certain roof tile types must be used as required by the local planning authority

We have direct access to a number of well stocked reclamation yards and we have founded a reclamation yard partnership with reclamation yards and roof tile suppliers all over the UK

How many years do roof tiles last?

There are many different varieties of reclaimed roof tiles and they are all designed to cope with whatever the elements can throw at them however reclaimed roof tiles can be affected in high winds and other adverse weather conditions where they may become dislodged or come off of the roof causing severe damage and breakage

The clay material in the reclaimed roof tiles is dried and fired during the manufacturing process. This has enabled roof tiles to have excellent weather proofing properties. It is a keenly disputed subject but a rough estimate is that a clay roof tile is said to last for at least 60 years however this figure varies across the range of manufacturers and varieties

There are some notable exceptions to the 60 year rule. You will see many 19th century buildings that have roof tiles on them that are well over 100 years old and when they are re-roofed many of those original tiles are re-used. There are also many other buildings in existence that feature the original roof tiles

Roof tile longevity is down to the quality of the material being used and the local weather and atmospheric conditions also play a part
